Can Walking Pneumonia Return?- AFC Urgent Care

Did you know that more than 2 million cases of walking pneumonia occur every year? If you become part of that statistic, our team at AFC Urgent Care Sevierville is here to help prescribe treatment and get you back to feeling your best.

What Is Walking Pneumonia?

As a milder form of pneumonia, walking pneumonia occurs when a bacterial infection affects your upper and lower respiratory tract. Although walking pneumonia is mostly experienced by school-age children and adults under 40, anyone can develop the condition. If you’re experiencing walking pneumonia, you may experience a range of symptoms:

Symptoms of Walking Pneumonia

  • Chills
  • Cough
  • Fatigue
  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Headache
  • Inflammation of windpipe
  • Loss of appetite
  • Nausea
  • Persistent cough
  • Rapid breathing
  • Sore throat
  • Upset stomach
  • Vomiting

Will My Walking Pneumonia Return?

Although you may not be as sick with walking pneumonia as you would with regular pneumonia, it can still take some time until you start feeling 100 percent. Make sure you allow yourself to recover fully. If you don’t and resume normal activity too soon, your body may still be weakened and you could develop another case of the illness or another illness.

Walking Pneumonia Treatment

  • Drink a lot of fluids, especially water.
  • Get plenty of rest.
  • Take over-the-counter medications like ibuprofen to help reduce pain and fever.
