Protect Your Health This Fall Who wants to be stuck in bed with an illness when there are so many fun events happening for adults and children? No one! Here are some tips to help you stay in the best health this fall! First, make sure you’re washing your hands frequently. By practicing handwashing on a regular basis, you can help eliminate germs and keep sickness at bay. If you don’t have access to soap and water, alcohol-based hand sanitizer will work in a pinch. Second, be sure you’re getting plenty of sleep. While it may be tempting to stay up late, it’s important to ensure you’re getting the recommended amount of good, quality sleep each night. Doing so helps your body restore and prepare for the next day—and keeps your immune system strong. In addition, you want to take a break here and there where you can. Between work and school and afterschool activities—and now all the fall festivities—things can get pretty crazy fast. As a result, your stress level might be higher than usual. And the higher the stress, the less your body is able to fend off sickness. As a result, it’s important to take some time to relax here and there in order to take a breath and recharge your batteries. Don’t overschedule your family during the week and on weekends. This will help you (and your family) stay calm, cool and collected in order to enjoy quality family time this October. You can also protect your health this fall—and amp up your immune system—by eating a balanced diet that’s filled with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins. And wash down your food with plenty of water. The temperatures may be cooling down, but it’s important to stay hydrated year-round.
